Photos with little ones, creating magic within the chaos

Let's talk about your session

Your fears are likely correct, photos with little ones takes some wrangling for sure. However, the right photographer will pull out all the tricks and create magical memories for your family. It will take some dipping, dodging and a bit of silliness - however I'm up for the challenge and looking forward to getting to know your little family and capturing this stage of your life through my lens.

Your fears, & How I can Help

"My kids won't listen"

When planning a family session please know, it's not about your kids listening all the time during the session. Every family session has a little bit of chaos and a whole lot of love - and that is ok! My approach to family sessions with small children is to create connection and capture that. It may mean we don't get a photo of the whole family smiling and looking at the camera - we will try our very best however my main goal is to create a session full of natural, little moments that show how your family loves one another. Kisses, giggles, tickles, hugs - these are the little moments that make the best photos.

The most important thing is that parents stay calm, cool and collected during the session, and enjoy the chaos. Smiling, giggling, making your little ones feel happy and enjoy it - you will be so thankful for how the photos look. Even if you are giving a gentle re-direction, doing so with a smile and staying calm is key.

"What if they don't turn out?"

Everyone has expectations going into a session. It's important you share general expectations prior to the session so I can do my best to meet some of those, however if you have many samples of exact photos you want - this may leave you disappointed as it's difficult to leave no room for creativity in the moment. It's best to go into the session with an open mind and allow the session to evolve based on your families connection, love and laughter. I can help wrangle your little ones to help meet some of your expectations - and again I cannot emphasize enough how important it is to be positive, calm and happy during your session. This will help the session go more smoothly, and create more positive memories for your family when it comes to having photos done! Be prepared to wrangle with a laugh, I will help you along the way!

"We have nothing to wear"

Chances are, you have items that will work great for a session already in your wardrobe! I have blog posts about what to wear during your session so I recommend going to check out those posts - and I have a session guide that will help you choose your outfits!

The biggest piece of advice - do a trial run with lots of advance notice on case you need to make changes - and make sure you try on the clothing! Ensure they are a good fit and are comfortable for moving, bending, sitting etc. Lay out the clothing you're hoping to wear and take a photo of it so you can see how they look together and if you like the arrangement of items. Once you have booked your session, you can always consult me for advice if you are still unsure.

"There is no way our family will ever look like the families you post"

I photograph all different families from all different backgrounds. As I have mentioned, what I try to highlight in my sessions is your family connection, and I do that by helping with some prompts to help you engage with one another - the prompts are easy for anyone to do and I have lots of options for different families! If you have any different abilities I can work with those as well and still create beautiful memories. I have photographed families who have individuals who are neurodivergent, deaf, blind, and have physical limitations and we always make it work. The more information I have, the better I can support you during your session. I also don't post every session I do, I maintain your privacy if you request it and I am happy to, Your photos are for you to cherish for years to come, and that's what matters to me.

My biggest piece of advice.. chat with your photographer before you book - you will find one that works for you!

Book the session - just make sure you find someone you're comfortable with. The memories will be ones you cherish for life and I highly recommend not missing out because you think it is an impossible task. It's not - and a good photographer can help you with that.

Your family doesn’t have to be perfectly posed to be beautifully photographed. My goal is to capture your connection as it naturally unfolds — giggles, cuddles, and all the in-between moments that make your family yours

With Love,
